COP21: A Potential Game Changer
ULI UK has passed the 1,000 member mark for the first time since its formation. The landmark figure is testament to breadth of the Council’s work in a wide range of areas across real estate and land use.
Thanks to the efforts of our executive committee, staff and members, it’s certainly been a busy year for ULI UK. In May we hosted our inaugural annual conference, which was attended by more than 200 people from the property and urban environment worlds. The last year has also seen the roll out of UrbanPlan, ULI’s educational programme for young people that aims to teach them about the urban environment through a series of interactive workshops and team challenges. Since its inception in the U.S. over ten years ago, it has reached more than 27,000 students. Having been fully adapted, UrbanPlan is now running in schools in the UK thanks to the generous support of a group of funders. ULI is delivering this innovative programme in schools across the country, initially over three years. By the third year, the target is to have it running annually in a minimum of 40 state schools reaching 1,200 pupils a year.
We also launched the second edition of the ‘Build to Rent: A Best Practice Guide’ which showed developers, investors, architects and planners what to aim for in the bespoke rental market.
The Young Leaders have also had an active year having launched the successful ‘innovators and disrupters’ series and a scholarship programme alongside existing initiatives including mentoring and ‘lunch & learn’ events with senior industry leaders.
“It’s fantastic to have reached such a significant milestone in our membership,” said Simon Clark, chair of ULI UK. “It’s all down to the important work our staff, leadership team and executive committee have done for a number of years in bringing together everyone from the real estate world. We’re looking forward to continued expansion and growth in the UK in the years ahead.”
To celebrate this significant milestone, we are awarding the 1,000th member with a complimentary registration to the 2017 ULI UK Annual Conference.
