The ULI Midlands continued to evolve and advance as the second largest ULI region in the UK for 2015.
Devolution, regeneration and capturing the region`s huge economic potential were themes for the year.
The emerging significance of Birmingham and the Midlands in ULI’s Global research was also clear. Prominent features in both Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2015 and the more recent City Density case studies highlighted Birmingham and the city-region as one of the most popular regions in the UK for foreign investment..
Devolution will have a profound influence on how the UK develops in the forthcoming decades. Our recent roundtable in partnership with Centre for Cities brought together leadership from the greater Midlands to discuss the real estate and urban implications of the Midlands Engine for Growth. Greater devolved control within the Midlands should lead to better land use planning and investment within the medium to long-term, with a strengthening of the region’s connectedness. A theme which ULI will take forward in 2016.
Connectivity, regeneration and value capture of transport infrastructure continued as important themes. Seminars based on New Street Station-Grand Central and King’s Cross were well received.
Our 2016 programme will commence 15th January with the launch of the Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2016 Report. Other items in the programme will include study tours of Longbridge and Mailbox. We would be delighted if you could join us.
We look forward to sharing our wider 2016 programme with you shortly and meeting you again in 2016.
