ULI UK Residential Council: Site Tour, Hughenden ExtraCare Retirement Village (open to Residential Council members and invited guests only)
ULI UK Residential Council members are invited to join a guided site tour of Hughenden Gardens ExtraCare Retirement Village in High Wycombe on 1st March.
The village comprises 260 one and two bedroom apartments available for purchase, shared ownership or affordable rent (185 apartments for sale and shared ownership and 75 for rent). The village offers comfortable high-quality homes, an active lifestyle people can enjoy and on-site 24/7 care if it’s needed. Delivered by the Charity’s professional on-site team, care requirements can be tailored to the residents’ needs and delivered within the comfort and privacy of their own homes. This can range from a simple daily pop-in visit to regular help of a more personal nature. Care services are charged as required and costs vary according to the level of care needed. The care service at all ExtraCare locations is rated Good or Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
The village also offers a ‘Well-being Centre’ offering health screening, information and advice on managing a healthy lifestyle. This holistic approach covers everything from keeping a healthy heart, managing diabetes and asthma, to weight reduction, diet, sleep and exercise, as well as safety in your own home. The village also includes a wealth of health and leisure facilities including a shop, hair and beauty salon, library, IT suite, fitness centre, ‘Village Hall’ for events and get-togethers, a community greenhouse and a craft and hobby studio.
Recent research with Aston University found that ExtraCare’s Well-being Service is making a real difference to older people’s lives: ExtraCare residents experienced a 46 per cent reduction in GP visits over one year, compared to people living in their own homes in the local community. Unplanned hospital stays for ExtraCare residents were reduced from 8-14 days down to 1-2 days. Over 18 months, there was a 64.3 per cent reduction in people with clinical level depression, a 23% improvement in memory and a 24% improvement in symptoms of anxiety.
ExtraCare Charitable Trust, is one of the UK’s leading housing with care providers.
