In Discussion: PRD & REDO – the Future of Affordable Workspace

This event is open exclusively to ULI Young Leader (under 35) members and space is limited to 25 attendees.

'In discussion' is a new ULI UK Young Leaders event series which invites leading industry professionals, from developers to urban thinkers, to discuss current urban development and real estate themes and trends.

The ULI UK Young Leaders are delighted to host the first in our series of 'In Discussion' events. We will be speaking with REDO and PRD, who believe that "Affordable Workspace isn’t working" and that there is significant "locked up" social, economic and commercial value within under-used assets across the UK. They have developed a new approach to public value asset strategies, which place local authorities in the driving seat and give greater importance to local amenity and inclusive economic outcomes.

They will share their ideas and beliefs for how affordable workspace policy and practice could be re-worked to deliver important benefits as part of a pathway to recovery.

Key topics they will discuss include:
    • Bridging the affordability gap
    • New opportunities for socially-oriented property management companies
    • Making the case for re-use of assets
    • Affordable workspace as an engine for place-making

     Speakers:

    Daniel Partridge, Director, PRD
Daniel is a director at the economic consultancy PRD. Much of his work involves extensive engagement with the public sector, its stakeholders and partners, to structure and develop new strategic approaches for major capital projects and delivery partnerships that aim to realise community and wider economic objectives within the constraints of the challenging economic climate.

    Andrew Cribb, Director, 3Space/ REDO
Andrew is CEO and co-founder of 3Space. He manages all of 3Space’s activities and plays a key advisory role. He has advised Barclays on how to more efficiently use their property, as well as Central Government as part of Space for Growth initiative, along with several local authorities in relation to high streets and town centres. Andrew is also a qualified Urban Planner and before 3Space worked in policy, infrastructure and regeneration for several London boroughs, HCA, and the London Development Agency. He also holds an MBA with a major in entrepreneurship, and is a Fellow of the RSA. He is a board member for the Brixton BID and sits on the Social Investment Committee for SE-Assist, which supported by L&G provides finance to social enterprises. He has co-written a white paper on the difficulties of landlord consent and opt-out clauses and spoken at conferences on topics from real estate to policy to innovation.

    About PRD & REDO

Together and individually, PRD and REDO are supporting local authorities, public bodies and communities to develop public value asset strategies across corporate, commercial and third party portfolios, including Newham, Croydon, RB Kensington & Chelsea and Camden.

PRD are specialists in the commercial, economic and social, aspects of development, growth and regeneration. We navigate the space where the public sector, private sector and communities combine, helping our clients and partners to create and deliver great places and projects.

REDO was set up by the founders of 3Space to advise on how real estate can be used as a tool for delivering social impact. At 3Space the team have operated 45 buildings across the UK over the last 10 years with a focus in recent years on affordable workspace, the most notable example of which is International House in Brixton, which is recognised as one of London’s flagship affordable workspace projects and applies the pioneering ‘Buy Give Work’ model for cross-subsiding socially-oriented uses from commercial income.
