ULI UK NEXT: Open Executive Committee Meeting
ULI NEXT UK Open Meeting
Nearly three years ago, Marcus Hale, Pan European Development Director, Patrizia Immobilien AG, sat with the ULI UK Executive Committee to outline the aspirations for creating ULI UK NEXT, an avenue for ULI members between the ages of 35 and 45 to foster leadership opportunities within ULI and the real estate industry.
This initiative sought to address a common reoccurring membership theme for those who have ‘aged out’ of Young Leaders in ULI by offering:
- A clear progression path for future leaders established through Young Leaders;
- Provide networking opportunities, information and connections to move careers forward;
- Access to programming that is respective of time constraints and directly relevant to those who are ‘mid-career’;
- Offer the opportunity to have a voice in the organisation and its programs, to ensure relevancy;
- Deliver a convincing reason to justify the additional cost of becoming a Full Member to employers;
- Identify talent within the ULI who are set to tackle the challenges facing companies and the real estate industry and ultimately may be the next leaders of ULI.
To meet these objectives ULI UK NEXT, now has an established NEXT Council, led by Richard Roberts, Kingsley Napley, who work together to deliver three distinct ULI member only programme strands:
- Transitions to Leadership – Intimate breakfasts with an industry leader for open and frank conversations around three core leadership topics for ULI UK NEXT members only. To date we have had breakfast with:
- Mike Strong, CBRE
- Ian Hawksworth, CapCo
- Anne Kavanagh, Patrizia Immobilien AG is scheduled for 27th April
- Leading Skills – Learning and development in the art of leadership (and the things that companies do not always provide in-house!) for ULI UK NEXT members only. To date we have had:
- Media Training with Husnara Begum (https://uk.uli.org/news/uli-uk-next/)
- Becoming a Better Panellist with Andrea Carpenter, Women Talk Real Estate
- Executive Coaching with Ann Bates, Performance Impact
- Team Leadership Skills with Ciara Woods
- Networked Leaders – Events to bring together the members of ULI UK NEXT to foster relationships (and have fun!) within our peer group but also across the wider ULI UK membership. To date we have participated in:
- Annual Young Leaders Summer and Winter Drinks
- NEXT Summer Drinks and Understanding Urban Plan with Simon Clark
- Invite-only Trustee dinner hosted by Andy Martin, BNP Paribas Real Estate UK
