ULI was delighted to host an event for all the winning student teams and their teachers who participated in UrbanPlan UK this academic year to mark their successes at iconic London landmark – City Hall.
UrbanPlan UK takes an urban regeneration workshop into state schools and is designed for 16-18 year olds. It is a powerful tool to reach out to a diverse demographic and to show how real estate can revive and regenerate urban areas. In this first year of the programme ULI visited 24 state schools across the UK and delivered to over 500 pupils. 200 industry volunteers participated. All the students delivered a presentation and the property industry volunteers chose a winning team of students from each school. ULI was incredibly impressed by the high standards.
At the event, we heard from speakers invited to inspire our winning teams, provide insight into the design of City Hall and explore the changing London skyline. Speakers included David Kong, Foster & Partners who was on the design team for City Hall and Fred Pilbrow of Pilbrow and Partners – the architect behind the Heron Tower. We also heard from students from Westminster Kingsway college and recent property graduates and apprentices also shared their career insights.
Following a buffet lunch all the students participated in a careers networking event with the support of the RICS, RTPI, Changing the Face of Property and Pathways to Property. Representatives from across the industry shared their career tips and talked about opportunities in surveying, planning, architecture and property law.
